Art

Second graders will...

  • create more detailed drawings and paintings.
  • continue to develop concepts of texture, color, line, shape, space, balance, contrast, rhythm, movement, and repetition.
  • explore similarities and differences in shapes, signs, and colors.
  • manipulate paper, including bending, folding, cutting, scoring, and piercing, in the construction of various projects.
  • depict mental images with concern for arrangement and size relationships.
  • experiment with combining materials and with using various tools in painting (sticks, sponges, etc.).
  • examine appropriate representative works of art.
  • recognize the connection between the appreciation and production of art with other subjects.
