Brief Statement of Subject Matter:

The sixth grade curriculum focuses on World History and Geography. It includes a study of archaeology, the major world religions, and the historical/cultural aspects of the early civilizations.

  • Human origins and early life; the work and findings of archaeologists
  • Earth’s geography
  • The agricultural revolution; Neolithic technology and its impact
  • Early civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India

 

Classical Civilizations of the Ancient World
(1000 B.C./B.C.E. to c. 500 A.D./C.E.)

  • The origins, central teaching, and legacies of Judaism
  • The classical civilization of India; Hinduism, Buddhism
  • The classical civilization of China; Confucianism, Taoism
  • Origins, central teachings, and spread of Christianity

 

Growth of Agricultural and Commercial Civilizations
(c. 500 A.D./C.E. to 1500)

  • The Byzantine Empire; religion
  • The origins and principles of Islam; spread of Muslim power
