Massachusetts has three retirement systems for public school employees. The Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement System (MTRS) is the largest, providing benefits to over 90,000 educators and 62,000 retirees. The City of Framingham Retirement System is for municipal employees, excluding teachers. Part-time and seasonal employees participate in the OBRA - Deferred Compensation Plan as an alternative to Social Security.

MA DEFERRED COMPENSATION SMART PLAN
If you're a part-time, seasonal, or temporary employee of Massachusetts or a Massachusetts local government employer, participation in the SMART Plan is mandatory for you.
